Remission

Some people with IBD have periods of remission, when they are free of symptoms. They may feel well, and there may be minimal or no signs of active disease. However, because conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic, symptoms usually recur at different times over a person’s lifetime. The first goal of therapy is to treat symptoms until you move into a period of remission. Then the goal is to keep you there as long as possible.
