Over the counter medicines

It’s important to keep in mind that in Australia, over the counter medicines you can buy in pharmacies or health food stores do not always have to undergo the same level of scrutiny as prescription medicines do. Not all medicines have to provide proof of their efficacy. The regulatory body, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, provides some further information about the differences between registered medicines (have an AUST-R number on the packaging) and listed medicines (have an AUST-L number on the packaging).
